I think that some jokes are pretty old, but overall, the goal is achieved - this short book explains what Americans consider funny and why. Many jokes could be used in different cultures and still, would make people smile. For the rest, just keep your minds open )) This book can be used as an extra material in ESL classroom. The other books you may want to look at are "101 American Customs", "USA - Culture Smart!", "What foreigners need to know about America", "English the American Way".

What So Funny? An International Student Introduction to American Humor edition by Elizabeth Claire Reference eBooks Reviews

This book can make anyone funny. Like.. read it and use the material for open mic kind of funny! Half of these jokes I have never heard before. What a great way to break language barriers.
This book breaks down what is so "high-larious" to Americans and explains what often gets lost in translation. It can certainly help get through awkward situations when a simple joke has turned into a terrible "oops!"
A wonderful analysis of various types of jokes and what makes them funny. A useful read for people who have a good basic English vocabulary but can't quite get American humor.
Contains lots of cute jokes and gives an informative background about what is found to be funny in different cultures. I like that the book explains ways to avoid offending others.
As a foreigner, I indeed didn't find most of the jokes funny. Maybe it's because I am not American, but even after the explanation I still couldn't find most of the joke funny at all. It's indeed a useful collection of a lot of American stereotypes though.
